Golden Looper Moth
Argyrogramma verruca (Fabricius, 1794)
Family: Noctuidae
Subfamily: Plusiinae
Identification: Forewing mostly deep gold, with brownish lines and shading. Stigma (usually silver mark in median area characteristic of looper moths) small, filled with gold; tiny second silver spot farther out in some specimens.
Wing Span: 2.8-3.4 cm.
Life History:
Flight: May-October; 2 or more broods southward.
Caterpillar Hosts: Arrowhead, curled dock, tobacco, and other low plants.
Adult Food:
Habitat: Tropical.
Range: Common in southern United States, rarely extending north to Maine, southern Ontario, and Kansas.
