Sighting Record 1268371

Observation Notes:
This little guy is fond of the screen on our front porch. He's been sitting in the sun for quite a while. His wings look a little beat up but he has no tail streamers. So I'm not sure he is a luna month.

Observation Notes:
I found a female Polyphemus Moth and 43 eggs on the right rear tire of my car at approximately 6:15 am on Thursday August 5th, 2019. I removed the moth to a nearby Birch tree where it laid another half-dozen eggs. I removed the 43 eggs from my car tire and put them in a small enclosure. Those eggs started to hatch into caterpillars on August 15th. Approximately 37 eggs hatched, and most started eating Oak leaves right away. 10 of the hatchlings appeared to die shortly after hatching.

Location Notes:
Older urban neighborhood with older trees, mixed deciduous and pine trees. There is heavy automobile traffic in the area. I have a bright outdoor garage light that I leave on every night and the City of Omaha recently installed a new LED street light in front of my house. This is the first Polyphemus Moth I have seen at this location.

Observation Notes:
Time: ~7:00 p.m. Weather: Warm, fairly calm, and mostly cloudy. Habitat: Drainage canal supporting common milkweed, large trees, and various other vegetation. Observation Notes:
Time: ~7:00 p.m. Weather: Warm, fairly calm, and mostly cloudy. Habitat: Drainage canal supporting common milkweed, large trees, and various other vegetation. Notes: Despite the clouds and time of day, a small Monarch was actively flying near the canal, and eventually landed about 8 ft. up in one of the trees, allowing for a close look to confirm that it wasn't a Viceroy. I may have seen one other Monarch in the distance, but I don't know for sure.

Time: 1:55 p.m. Weather: Warm, moderately windy, and partly cloudy, with a massive thunderstorm approaching from the west. Habitat: Short-cut field of morning glories, mallow, dandelions, grass, and various other weeds. Notes: This common checkered-skipper landed on a patch of dirt in the field, allowing me to get a very close look to confirm identification. As it slowly spread its wings, it abruptly darted off.
