Observation Notes:
It flew very fast, darting in and out of garden when startled (I think) by my presence. It was drinking nectar from buddleia.
Location Notes:
Location of sighting is a butterfly garden with a pond within fifty feet and contains lots of native and non-native plants. The edge of the woods is within fifty feet as well. Trees on the property include ash, willows, birch, beech, white oak, red oak, other oaks, red maple, hickory, alder, dogwood, sassafrass, a few conifers...etc. Bushes include spice bush, witchhazel, New Jersey tea, rhododendron, elderberry, clethra, button bush...etc. Other plants include milkweeds, buddelia, cosmos, zinias, ironweed, golden rods, joe pye weeds, early and late figwort, rhudbeckia lancelota, sunflowers, asters, lupin, nettles, cardinal flower, blue vervain, carrot family, fennel ...etc.
