Subfamily: Erebinae
Identification: Forewing grayish brown, with an oblique whitish bar extending from costa through subreniform spot. Note broad tooth on basal side of am. line, near inner margin. Hindwing banded orange and black.
Wing Span: 6.8-8.4 cm.
Life History:
Flight: July-early November.
Caterpillar Hosts: Ash, butternut, hickory, pecan, persimmon, and walnut trees.

Range: Maine to Florida, west through southern Ontario to South Dakota and Texas.
