South Georgia an interesting area biogeographically. Unlike Florida to the south, we have a definite winter season during which insect activity is greatly diminished. However, our winters are definitely shorter and milder than those further north. You might therefore expect the active season of insects to be somewhere in between those of Florida and further north, but there's surprisingly little seasonal activity data available for this area for most species of insects.
Our objective for this project is to collect late-season data on butterflies and moths, and to see how this area compares to more northern and southern regions.
