Identification: Body and wings are black; large white patch on forewing and red patch on hindwing; forewing has inconspicuous metallic shading.
Wing Span: 2.2 - 2.7 cm
Life History: A woodland day-flier, often mistaken for a butterfly.
Flight: Late March - early May.
Caterpillar Hosts: Grapes.
Adult Food: NULL
Habitat: NULL
Range: Massachusetts to northern Florida; west to Iowa and Texas.
Conservation: NULL
NCGR: G5 - Demonstrably secure globally, though it may be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.
