This is a very tiny moth, about the size of a pinkie finger nail. They fly mostly in early morning and evening. I see them on all types of flowers in my garden. They are present from summer through fall until frost.

Hanging peacefully on a twig 12 inches off the ground. Sunny warm day in forested mountain area at 6,600' elevation. Many wildflowers in the area but do not know of species names other than penstemon and horsemint.

Butterflies seem to be warming up and drying out after a cool, wet night. This one was perched quietly on a blade of grass with wings spread open. At my approach it slowly closed its wings and stayed that way.

Very vibrant orange. Butterflies seemed to be warming themselves and drying out after a cool wet night. The one in the photo is perched on the unopened flower head of a plant in the buckwheat family.
