Large Tolype Moth
Tolype velleda (Stoll, 1791)
Family: Lasiocampidae
Subfamily: Macromphaliinae
Identification: Body extremely hairy. Head and front and sides of thorax white, middle of thorax black. Abdomen white to gray. Wings pale to dark gray with white veins and lines. Postmedial line broad, almost straight.
Wing Span: 3.2-5.8 cm.
Life History:
Flight: September - October.
Caterpillar Hosts: Apple, ash, birch, elm, oak, plum, and other trees.

Habitat:
Range: Nova Scotia to central Florida, west to Minnesota, Nebraska, and Texas.
