Pseudohermonassa bicarnea (Guenée, 1852)

Subfamily: Noctuinae
Identification: Forewing dark purplish brown with pinkish orange blotches near base and at top of pm. line. Lines double, black. Orbicular spot angled, open toward costa, interrupting black bar from am. line to reniform spot. Hindwing grayish brown, darker at outer margin.
Wing Span: 3.2-4.3 cm.
Life History:
Flight: August-October.
Caterpillar Hosts: Many plants, including birches, clovers, and maples.

Range: Newfoundland to North Carolina, west to Manitoba and Missouri.

Comments: Genus name was changed from Xestia to Pseudohermonassa in 7/2009 as per Hugh McGuinness.
