Small Bird-dropping Moth
Ponometia erastrioides (Guenée, 1852)
Family: Noctuidae
Subfamily: Acontiinae
Identification: Forewing white with blackish markings; no olive green effect as in P. candefacta. Large blackish patch does not reach apex. Look for a tiny black orbicular dot; reniform spot obscured by mottling. Hindwing whitish with grayish brown shading.
Wing Span: 1.6-2 cm.
Life History:
Flight: May-September.
Caterpillar Hosts: Ragweed.

Range: Maine and southern Quebec to northern Florida, west to Minnesota, Nebraska, and Texas.
