Identification: Forewing is white to dark black-gray with jaggged, dentate black lines; hindwing is white with a dark submarginal band or pure gray; males with pectinate antennae.
Wing Span: 5.0 cm
Life History:
Flight: Adults are nocturnal, recorded May through August over most of range (wider range of records in coastal California)
Caterpillar Hosts: Species of Pineaceae, particularly Douglas-fir.
Adult Food:
Habitat: Coniferous forests
Range: British Columbia east to New England, south to central coastal California.
