Identification: Similar to Red-bordered Emerald, but without discal dots and red terminal line. White am. and pm. lines straighter. Red shading on head (frons), legs and forewing base at costa; outer scales of fringe may be pinkish. Look for 2-3 white spots ringed with red on abdomen.

Wing Span: 2.1-2.5 cm.

Life History: Two or more broods in the southern range.

Flight: April-August.

Caterpillar Hosts: Northern bayberry, Ceanothus species, sheep laurel, winged sumac, sweetfern, and sweetgale.

Range: Nova Scotia and North Carolina, west to South Dakota and Kansas.
