Hyperstrotia secta (Grote, 1879)


Family: Noctuidae
Subfamily: Acontiinae
Identification: Almost identical to Dotted Graylet, but with a prominent black patch in lower median area. Forewing gray with inconspicuous whitish lines. Reniform spot contains 1-2 black dots. Hindwing dark grayish brown.
Wing Span: 1.5-1.9 cm.
Life History:
Flight: June-August.
Caterpillar Hosts: Red and white oaks.

Range: Massachusetts and southern Ontario to North Carolina and Alabama, est to Missouri and Mississippi.
