Epelis truncataria (Walker, 1862)
Family: Geometridae
Subfamily: Ennominae
Identification: Wing ground color varies from white to orange yellow. Forewing with 4 transverse dark bands. Hindwing similar but with only 3 dark bands.
Wing Span: 1.6-2.2 cm. (5/8 - 7/8 inch)
Life History: Univoltine. Flying mostly in May and early June. Pupae overwinter.
Flight:
Caterpillar Hosts: Leather-leaf (Chamaedaphne calyculata), bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), blueberry (Vaccinium myrtilloides).
Adult Food:
Habitat: Sphagnum bogs, heath and moorlike habitats in the east; montane shrub barrens in west; wherever food plants grow.
Range: Alaska to Newfoundland south to Colorado and New Jersey.
Conservation: Not usually required.
