Doubleday's Baileya
Baileya doubledayi (Guenée, 1852)
Family: Nolidae
Subfamily: Risobinae
Identification: All five Baileya species are gray with a blackish costal patch near the forewing apex. This species is the most boldly marked, with a slightly wavy white pm. line and a black reniform spot shaped like a teardrop. Hindwing whitish to gray.
Wing Span: 2.4-2.8 cm.
Life History:
Flight: May-August.
Caterpillar Hosts: Alders.
Adult Food:
Habitat:
Range: Nova Scotia and Quebec to northern Florida, west to Wisconsin and Mississippi.
Conservation: Uncommon to rare, especially southward.
