Identification: Seasonally and sexually dimorphic; most reliable marking is dark triangular patch near apex of forewing (absent in summer females). Most forms also have some dark accents (sometimes a distinct double spot) at lower end of pm. Line. Wings mottled fawn brown in spring brood (both sexes); usually more yellowish in summer brood. Summer male bright yellow with reddish brown shading beyond pm. line; summer female all yellow.
