Subfamily: Sesiinae
Identification: Variable, with 4 different appearances. Males have a long slender appendage extending from the eigth abdominal segment.
Wing Span: 2.5-3.2 cm, females larger than the males.
Life History:
Caterpillar Hosts: Larva bore into the roots of Clematis and Ribes species.
Adult Food:
Range: Eastern half of the US and Canada.
