Cecropia silkmoth
Hyalophora cecropia

Observation date: June 28, 2014
Submitted by: mjohansson13
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: on a rainy day, my cat started to attack the moth and it flapped its wings erratically in attempt to escape, but it could not fly, probably because the cat bit part of its wing off. The moth was very still for a while and slowly moved its wings up and down like it was breathing or something. after a few minutes, it suddenly flew away. The moths's body was furry and red and its antennae were brown and feather-like. Its wings had different patterns of spots and stripes and contained colors of red, brown, orange, and black.
