Observation notes: haryd to spot be looking for easily stirred up fairy like shadow, very hard to follow. its as if they know that they disappear from sight when landing in leaf litter. if you move slowly they stay put. late afternoon. warm day

Coordinator notes: This appears to be subspecies behrii, a butterfly of the Coast Ranges and southern Sierra Nevada. The Common Wood-Nymph (Cercyonis pegala) has been recorded from only Kern and Santa Barbara Counties in southern California.
