Observation notes: hot july day, i usually see these later in the afternoon as things start to cool down. They are easily startled, rapid fliers that are hard to follow but will usually come to rest in leaf litter and almost become invisible. this one landed back on bushes of trail side. they seem to stay still if you move slow. allowing a great photo session, usually in low light.
