Coordinator notes: This is a very rare find. The Peacock Butterfly is known in North America, as far as I know, only from a few records in the Montreal area, in Quebec. It is believed to have come over on a boat; the first records were very near the docks. I have never heard of any records from New York State. It hibernates as an adult, like Mourning Cloaks, for example. This one tried to hibernate in the factory, but died.
