Observation notes: Found this moth in the yard as I was mowing. Was sitting on grass and flapping its wings a lot - though not trying to fly, it didn't seem like. Did not object to climbing onto my hand or shoe. It almost seemed curious about me, rather than wanting to leave. When placed on lilac bush (to keep out of rain that was starting), seemed content and climbed up it a bit. Still lots of wing flapping but not seeming injured or unable to fly a couple of times. Very plump orange body with white stripes. Beautiful wings, though wing cells not as defined as on other pictures of Callosamia moths, and the stripe separating front and back portions of wings were not white, but more orange/red.
