Observation notes: This photograph was taken 7/29/2011 at Little Pee Dee State Park in Dillon Co., SC. These caterpillars were feeding on Lyonia lucida (Shining Fetterbush) in a pocosin/seepage area next to a man-made lake. My concern is this might be Datana ministra and not D. major. Could you also tell me what instar this caterpillar is? Thanks for your help. Mike
