Observation notes: It was a little more than an inch long, had a slightly thicker body so i assumed it might have been a male? The underside of its wings looked relatively the same as the overside and i believe had a black tongue

Coordinator notes: You're correct, it is a male Spicebush Swallowtail, which have distinctly different dorsal hindwing patterns than the female. They typically have a narrower body than a female...so this might've just been a "well fed" individual, perhaps? They are large for butterflies - typical wingspan is 3-4 inches. -Jeff Gesell
