Observation notes: We came upon this Silver-spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus) quite by accident during the mid-afternoon on June 24th. We were examining the leaves of our Common Milkweeds for evidence of Monarch Butterflies (e.g., eggs or caterpillars; thus far, we've found neither). The Skipper was feeding from one of the milkweed flowers.
At the time (3:26 PM), the air temperature was 75°F, the dew point was 61°F, the humidity was 61%, the air pressure was steady at 28.7 inches, and there was a 10 mph breeze blowing from the west under fair skies.
