Observation notes:
I spotted our first Monarch Butterfly for 2026 on June 23rd at about 5 PM. (It's also the only Monarch Butterfly that we've seen since, i.e., through the end of June.) It flitted around a group of blooming common milkweed plants growing near the front of our house. It only landed briefly at various points, making it difficult to take a photo with my old Canon camera. I finally got a shot (the only one) looking through the milkweed plants; of course, it had landed on the opposite side from where I was standing. I was not able to get close enough to tell if it was a male or a female. I also found no eggs on any of the leaves once it left.
At the time, the air temperature was about 78°F, the dew point was about 51°F, the humidity was about 38% and rising, and there was a light 8 mph breeze from the north under mostly cloudy skies.
