Observation notes: I understand these are rare and only found at high altitude in the mountains of central New Mexico down to the Guadalupe Mountains in west Texas. I have a French door with glass panes and noticed there were FIVE of them on the glass attracted to the light. Or maybe it was a courtship gathering. I live on an 80 foot cliff overlooking the Pecos River at an altitude of 6420. This north facing cliff has a lot of gambel oak which I understand is a favored forage for their caterpillars. Half an hour after I took the photos they had all vanished.
