Coordinator notes: Your ID is correct...a newly emerged male. Genetics suggests our Northern Checkerspots are a separate species-level taxon...Chlosyne flavula. In western Colorado-eastern Great Basin is the nominate subspecies flavula (your photo). The applicable common name can now be "Rocky Mountain Checkerspot" but Northern is fine also. The species palla is now confined the the western states in the US...primarily Calif., Oregon, Wash. and southern B.C. Canada. Mike
