One-eyed sphinx
Smerinthus cerisyi

Observation date: March 13, 2026
Submitted by: jamesvonloh
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Large moth, living but with a wing stuck on adobe mud along the Rio Grande low-flow channel within Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park. The individual was likely blown to the mud surface by a wind gust; I moved it to drier sand where it began pumping its wings up and down - it was gone when I returned later in the afternoon. The midday was warm, sunny, and with gusting wind.
