Observation notes: This large moth was floating at 08:46am, but still alive on the Fillmore Canyon pond below the waterfall, within Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. After several minutes of intermittent wing motions, it crawled onto the adjacent shore, warmed in the sun about 5-10 minutes, then rapidly flew away. There were also several White-lined Sphinx visiting the pond to collect water at this time. The morning was warming, calm, and under full sunlight.
