Coordinator notes: Your ID is correct...a male. In the San Juan Mts. the Parnassius is different than in the other other ranges. You can see in your photo the apical wing tips are clear (transparent) and the near descending wing border. This is characteristics of subspecies pseudorotgeri. They are only partially clear elsewhere (more clear at high altitude (form hermodur) and at lower altitude mostly wing-color scaled (subspecies smitheus). South Fork of Mineral Creek north of Silverton...one of my favorite easy accessable places in the San Juans and a great spot for butterflies. Mike
