Observation notes: On August 20, 2025, at 9:20 AM EST in Bethesda, MD, I observed a moth resting on a shaded wall leading to a stairwell. The moth remained stationary for at least ten minutes before disappearing by around noon. Its wings displayed a striking, intricate pattern of muted greens, browns, and cream tones, forming an almost camouflage-like design that blends with natural textures, and the edges of the wings appeared slightly scalloped. The body was slender and aligned with the symmetry of the wings, with thin antennae extending forward. The surrounding environment was shaded, and the fall-like weather was mild, approximately 60°F. The moth’s design was visually captivating, and its stillness allowed for careful observation of its pattern, wing shape, and overall morphology, highlighting the unique adaptations of its coloration for blending into its environment.
