Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Unexpected although hoped for for many years. Flying a route through my garden and neighbors' gardens returning to the milkweed patch every 15 or 20 minutes. Stayed around for about 2 hours and disappeared when the afternoon breezes kicked in. First saw it fly by the kitchen window. I planted a mixed, Showy and Narrow-leafed, milkweed patch years ago. The showy has finished blooming so the butterfly nectared on the Narrow-leafed Milkweed. It seemed to prefer the Showy Milkweed plants but moved on to the Narrow-leafed plants which are in bloom right now.
