Observation notes: A warm, sunny morning around 19C, humidity around 80%. Found this mating pair on the ground in the middle of a pull-off spot on shoulder of road. I submitted (1407210) Herpetogramma aquilonalis on July 10. Not sure if these are the same, but the "quotation marks" near the leading edge of the forewing lead me to suggest genus herpetogramma. Don't know if it's wise to pick them up when so engaged, but the risk of being run over was high.
