Coordinator notes: This is a male of what BAMONA has in their species list as the Chryxus Arctic...but the high altitude "form" of this group should be considered a distinct species from it...the Calais Arctic (our subspecies is altacordillera). The Chryxus Arctic flies only in even-numbered years in Colorado and usually between 7,000 and 10,000 feet...calais flies every year, above 9000 feet and differs in several respects otherwise, one being by its mate location behavior and one major wing trait (males have a reduced forewing stigma compared to chryxus that has a very large distinct stigma on the center part of the forewings). Hope this doesn't confuse you too much! Mike
