Observation date: June 30, 2025
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Looks a lot like the photos of this species (the pale stripe unlike Northern, and quite different from Field with all of the orange, which reminds me more of Pearl Crescents in the east) so am hoping that's what it is!

Coordinator notes: I think the Northern Crescentspot...a female...at least this is the "safest" ID without being able to examine a specimen which would probably be diagnostic from the underside as the "Tawny Crescentspot"...aka Phyciodes batesii...except we don't have batesii in Colorado but genetics suggest it to be a distinct species...Phyciodes apsaalooke (and subspecies anasazi). This is recorded around Green Mt. Reservoir and along the area of the Colorado River where it drops into the 8000 ft. area not far from you. It feeds only on one Aster species...Aster glaucoides (grows where there is slide dirt). Do you know if it occurs in your area or only Aster foliaceus? Mike Mike
