Observation notes: Found flying around trees near a pond. Cool colors, and definitely different from the usual buckeyes we see around central Texas.

Coordinator notes: Hi. I think, after consulting this article - see https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8570557/ - that this is Junonia coenia after all. I'm basing this on Fig 4 in the article. Note the eyespots - they're consistent with J. coenia but not, I believe, with J. stemosa (the Twintip Buckeye) or with J. genoveva (the Mangrove Buckeye). According to this article, only these three Junonia sp. are found in Texas, by the way. I hope you find the article interesting and useful - I consult it every time I have to identify Junonia sightings in Texas or Florida. JRains
