Observation notes: This butterfly flew into an opening between two patches of Rough Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa) to the south side of the house. It landed on the underside of a wild violet leaf. It was just resting. When I tried to get a picture of it, it flew away, heading north going around the east and then the north side of the house. I followed it hoping it would soon land again. It took some time but it finally did. I felt very lucky, because it was like the yard had an invisible barrier. It flew along the edge, bouncy and erratic, but it never flew out. When I thought it would turn outwards and disappear into the distance, it turned inwards into the front yard and landed on the leaf of a Blue Mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum) plant. It stayed very still. It was resting again. I was able to get a picture.
