Observation notes: Cool, 54 degrees, and mostly cloudy morning up at Sonora Pass. It had just rained. Saw this butterfly in fir and pine adjacent to a meadow just WSW of the pass. Thought it might be a moth the way it was flying. stalked it around for about ten minutes before I was able to get close for a picture. Obviously a bit beat up, which may have helped me get close to it. Still thought it might be a moth until I saw Robert Gorman's recent submission for this insect. First time sighting for me, and the first I've ever heard of this species.
