Observation notes: The skipper was seen in the riparian area along the Rio Grande at Santa Elena Canyon. Reed, athel, and willow are the most common plants. The skipper would fly low, circle, and land on the sand, immediately spreading its wings. Because of this, I was unable to photograph the underwings.

Coordinator notes: I can't find any recording sightings from Big Bend, but I agree this is A. tolteca. Can't say whether it's resident. There are plenty of sightings in AZ and SW NM; none in Texas that I can easily find. Very interesting sighting.
