Bicolored honey locust moth
Syssphinx bicolor

Observation date: May 03, 2023
Submitted by: homofamiliaris
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: spotted it from a distance crawling among the leaves, twigs, and short grass of someone's lawn, in the shade, during a sunny warm day. placed it back on a twig when i was done photographing it. i was stunned by its tiny wings, as i had never seen a moth at this life stage before. the pink area seemed pinker in real life than it does on camera. after some research, felt the closest match was "modest sphinx", but the color of its wings seemed not to match what i see online.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Now in genus Syssphinx. Likely just emerged. It takes a bit for the wings to unfurl.
