Coordinator notes: A newly emerged male Northern Checkerspot at wet sand to imbibe minerals. Genetic work shows that our populations in the Rocky Mountains are a different species than Chlosyne palla (far western states) so the species name will change to Chlosyne flavula...east of the Continental Divide we have subspecies calydon and west, subspecies flavula and there are some areas with a blend betweeen the two.
