Gray Buckeye
Junonia grisea

Observation date: October 01, 2022
Submitted by: Joshua C
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Landed briefly next to the main trail at the canyon bottom. I saw a few nectaring on rabbitbrush in the city a few days before this, including one with a darker area around the eyespot than usual that I thought may have been a Dark x Gray buckeye. The most common butterfly in the ABQ area that I've seen lately are Painted Lady and Reakirt's Blue, other than those diversity is pretty low.
Status: Temporary Colonist

Coordinator notes: Joshua, I agree this seems to be a blend of gray/dark, but perhaps with more Gray, or Common, as BAMONA prefers. now approved as Gray Buckeye (10/23/22)
Checklist region(s): United States, New Mexico, Bernalillo County
