Gray Buckeye
Junonia grisea

Observation date: October 03, 2022
Date notes: My husband was hunting and took the picture- we believe it is a twintip buckeye. The butterfly is in the middle if you zoom in. We were on forest road 106 off winchuck River road in Brookings Oregon. We were at the end of the road above a cat fire road. I believe the gps coordinates are in the picture.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The weather was foggy with sun breaks, dry, about 58 degrees. The butterfly was eating off the bush which had sweet smelling tiny white flowers and my husband said it was there about an hour. He didn’t want to get to close which is why the picture is so small. To see the butterfly, zoom in on the center.

Coordinator notes: The only Buckeye in Oregon is the Gray Buckeye, Junonia grisea. The Common Buckeye occurs further east in the USA. This is a recent change based on recent research.-Ken Davenport
