Observation date: September 15, 2022
Submitted by: Breck Breckenridge
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: First found it crawling across a door mat in my garage. No idea how it got in there. I picked the carpet/mat up and carried it outside in better light for photographs. When touched the animal goes in paroxysms of wriggling. I am pretty sure the head of the animal is the plain end without the appendage. Weather is low 70s F., dry, cloudy to partly cloudy. Light breeze. After photographing I dropped the caterpillar into some vegetation in my garden. Creature was approx. 6-7 cm. long and about 10 mm thick.
