Observation notes: This butterfly was patrolling. When I parked the car it flew to the car and began inspecting the car. It landed on the car, then flew and walked over the car from front to back, then it flew inside the car and explored. I then inspected me, it seemed to look me over from head to foot and then resumed patrolling, and perching on the hot blacktop while slowly fanning its wings. Location: Parker Creek turnout along NF-3010 road. Elevation is approximately 3,100 feet. Habitat: Small, riparian roadside waterfall with mossy rock faces along shoulders of road both directions from the waterfall. Mixed conifer and deciduous forest. Sunny in the afternoon. Mix of deciduous and conifer trees.
