Observation notes: I felt something on my ankle and brushed it off, noticing only that it was a strange item with red around its tip. I thought at first it was something being attacked by ants but when I looked more closely I realized it was a grub with wings just emerging. So I watched it until the wings fully expanded and took a series of pictures. Terrain rocky riverbed, stunted pines, Ceonothus and some wildflowers. Very hot day, windy.
