Green or Chlorina Blue
Icaricia chlorina

Observation date: July 02, 2022
Submitted by: ezeemonee
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This butterfly was hanging onto its Sulphur Buckwheat host plants as the afternoon winds kicked up in the Piute Mountains. No other Buckwheat host plants in the area other than this large patch of Sulphur Buckwheat. I think that supports this being ssp. (or sp.) Chlorina vs the lower elevation ssp. Monticola which utilizes CA Buckwheat as a host. Topside was brown in flight so this was a female and not a hill topping I. Acmon male. Elevation ~8000 ft.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Yes, chlorina is a different species than the Lupine Blue and they fly at the same time Comstock's Blue does, backed by my own collecting in the Piute Mountains!-Ken Davenport
