Rustic sphinx
Manduca rustica

Observation date: May 10, 2022
Submitted by: anniemae5
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: He is quite large, at least over 1 inch long (not factoring in his wings). He is hanging onto the screen inside my screened-in porch. One observation which may be worth noting is that he is hanging on the one specific screen panel that is directly above my trash can, where I often throw away empty cans of wet cat food, as well as directly above my file folder where I store many documents. It's about 75 degrees Fahrenheit outside today, with 36 percent humidity, which is very little humidity compared to our usual levels. Notably, I also have not seen any other insects on the porch at all today, which is very unusual. There are normally at least a few flies, a new spider or two, and other flying insects on the porch, but none today whatsoever.
