Observation notes: This was the first time I saw a Mourning Cloak in our yard, although I have seen this species in county parks last season. It was also the first butterfly other than Whites or Sulphurs that I noticed in our yard this season. It was first spotted drinking at a raised, bird bath. After a few minutes, it flew to the trunk of a nearby Desert Willow.
